Guinness World Record: Skoda Superb Diesel Drives 2,831 km on One Tank

Skoda‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Superb Diesel‍‌ has raised a few eyebrows by setting a Guinness World Record of driving 2,831 kilometres (1,759 miles) on a single tank of gas, thus, it becomes a very fuel-efficient large sedan.

Accordingly, it has been achieved by a meticulously planned long-distance drive across Europe by the Polish rally champion Miko Marczyk in March 2025.

Record Details and Journey

The record-breaking adventure was a road trip from Łódź, Poland, through Germany, France (including Paris), the Netherlands, Belgium, and back to Germany. Without the need for a single refuel, the car covered the whole 2,831 km journey, and hence the average speed was close to 80 km/h. Yes, Marczyk, as a professional rally driver who usually drives in a high-speed manner, ironically, was practising an efficient style. The style was slow speed, smooth throttle application, and traffic checking in order to save fuel.

The Car and Modifications

Actually, it was a standard factory fourth-generation Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI diesel with 148 horsepower, FWD, and a 7-step DSG transmission. The capacity of its fuel tank was 66 litres (17.4 gallons). There were a few small but very effective changes, such as low rolling resistance tyres being set and the suspension springs of the Sportline version, thus lowering by 15 mm the ride height to make the car more aerodynamic. Apart from that, the Superb is a pretty aerodynamic car with the drag coefficient going from 0.234 to 0.274; thus, it would be quite logical that a major part of the efficiency result is due to it.

Fuel Efficiency Performance

It was only 2.61 litres per 100 km (90 mpg approx.) of fuel that the Skoda Superb in question has consumed on average, which is almost two times more efficient than the official figures of the car, which are approximately 4.8 litres per 100 km. Once in France, the tailwind was helping the car, and the consumption was as low as 2.2 litres per 100 km (around 107 mpg) for a distance of 200 km, thus generating a situation in which the driver was able to demonstrate a perfect consistency of driving over the route.

Driving Philosophy and Conditions

According to Marczyk, the crucial factor that led to fuel-saving was the single, continuous and unbroken input of energy from driving. The night temperature was almost 1 degree Celsius, and there were some tough uphill sections, as well as changes in the wind direction, that required the driver to adjust his driving style. Use of Eco mode, keeping the tyres in a good condition, gentle Accelerator pedal use and coasting were among the activities that contributed to further prolonging the fuel economy. This drive is an example that a diesel engine is still at least one of the benchmarks in fuel efficiency; therefore, it does not necessarily lose to electric vehicles in terms of fuel economy.

Significance and Future Goals

Besides, it abolishes the existing world record of 2,545.8 km that was established in 2011; it is also a driver of diesel

Technology has a lot of untapped potential when a driver is skilled, in front of the world, for fossil fuel technology. Marczyk is planning to go beyond the limit he has set by keeping the record of 3,000 km on a single tank of fuel, thus taking long-distance economical driving to a new level.

This Guinness World Record of the Skoda Superb Diesel is quite an excellent indicator of the engineering feat that fuel efficiency is, and also the very important role conscious and skilled driving plays in range maximisation of the vehicle. It moves diesel to a more fuel-efficient option in the transition landscape of automotive and, therefore, becomes a landmark in the era of endurance motoring.

If it is such as you want, a vehicle that will give you great performance yet at the same time be very fuel-efficient, then the Skoda Superb Diesel record-breaking run is an excellent promotion for both the car and the efficient driving ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌practice.
