Maruti Suzuki India Limited has successfully accomplished a significant export milestone with the Jimny 5-door SUV crossing the mark of 1 lakh global shipments, making it India’s most successful 4×4 export and Maruti’s second most exported model after the Fronx.
India’s Global SUV Success
With high demand in more than 100 countries, including Japan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Chile, the Jimny 5-door was manufactured only at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant. The SUV has gone international rapidly and has been successful in the foreign markets due to its compactness, strong off-road capability, and reliability ever since its exports were initiated in 2023. The same model in Japan is sold under the name “Jimny Nomade,” and it garnered more than 50,000 pre-orders in a few days right after its launch in early 2025.

Engineering and Performance
The Jimny 5-door, the product of a ladder-frame chassis, is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine connected with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO 4WD system, thereby allowing it to be powerful and rugged while doing off-road ventures and, at the same time, durable. Thus, it is an extremely practical off-road vehicle that, at the same time, is capable of handling the urban environment due to its compactness, and the combination results in wide acceptance of such models in markets with different terrain types.

Export Growth and Significance
While approximately 75,800 Jimnys out of a total of 1.02 lakh were sent abroad till April 2025, only around 26,000 units were sold locally, showing the vehicle’s global popularity to be incredible. Also, Maruti Suzuki announced that in the first half of FY’26, more than 2 lakh vehicles were shipped across its various models, thus accounting for a record 40 per cent year-on-year growth. This is a strong indication of India’s new role as a strategically positioned automotive manufacturing hub.

Leadership Comments
Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, was very proud of the global achievement and said that the Jimny is a reflection of more than 50 years of off-road heritage. He put forward the strong DNA, reliability, and “Make in India for the World” manufacturing vision as the reasons for the global consumers’ love for the SUV.

Overview
With nearly three-quarters of its production being served by global markets, the Jimny 5-door has not only revived Suzuki’s legendary off-road heritage but also positioned India as a global hub for compact off-road vehicle exports. The massive popularity of this product outside the country is direct evidence of the international community gradually putting its trust in Indian-made automobiles, which meet the highest-quality standards and are globally competitive products.
